The best way to use your mobile phone in Ireland is to keep it tucked in your pocket or bag and not to touch it.
This article has been updated to clarify the rules.
Read more about this article A number of factors have been put in place to make sure you’re safe driving in the country.
These include the following: An approved operator has to be in charge of your mobile device.
This operator must have the right licence to operate.
There are no restrictions on when you can use your phone, only when you are driving.
There is a speed limit of 20km/h (12mph).
Your phone can only be in your hand at all times.
If your phone gets wet, it will automatically go into “waterproof mode”.
In the event of a crash, your phone will stop working and you will not be able to get a call or text.
You are required to carry your phone with you at all time.
Drivers are also required to be wearing a helmet at all hours of the day and night.
This is enforced with a strict eye and ear protection.
There are two types of helmets: One is a traditional type, which is designed to protect your head and neck from blows.
The other is a foam helmet that has a reflective coating and is worn by motorists.
The use of a mobile device while driving is also not permitted.
Driving on foot is also prohibited.
Drives in rural areas are also prohibited to keep the peace.
The Department of Transport has set up a website for the public to check whether they are allowed to use their mobile phone on the road.
If they do not have the correct licence to drive a mobile, they are asked to get one from the operator of the road or the operator that has been issued with the licence.
If a licence is not available, a local person may request a mobile from a designated person and a decision will then be made.
The road safety campaign for mobile phones has a dedicated page on the website.
The campaign is also available in Welsh, Irish, English, French and German.
A spokesperson for Transport Minister Shane Ross said: “If you don’t have the licence to use mobile phones, you’ll need to get it from the local authority or someone you trust.
You can also find out how to get the licence on our mobile phone guide page.”
