Separately, the State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a police car and a pickup truck on the I-4.
Separally, a traffic collision on Interstate 4 in the San Joaquin Valley has killed two people and injured at least nine more.
“It’s a sad day when the first responders are killed on the job,” California Highway Patrol Lt.
J.D. “TJ” Smith said in a statement, adding that the crash happened on the highway between La Jolla and the state’s largest city, San Francisco.
“As a result, I want to send our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims.”
“The I-44 bridge is one of the most traveled bridges in the country,” Smith said.
“It’s also one of our busiest highways, and there’s no way for this accident to have been avoided.”
State Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal crash involving an police car, a pickup and a tractor-trailer on Interstate-4 in the state of California on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
A driver who was driving on Interstate Highway-4 when the pickup crashed into a tractor trailer is believed to have suffered fatal injuries, according to a statement from the California Highway Safety Division.
The crash occurred on Thursday at 8:35 a.m. local time, and the pickup driver is expected to survive, officials said.
State troopers are assisting the California State Police in the investigation, the Highway Patrol said.
No additional details were immediately available.
